Yes, Dr. Cynthia Rudert is one of the most entertaining doctors you'll ever encounter.

Customer Appreciation Day at Natural Foods Warehouse

Up front, I must apologize that I'm posting about this great event after the fact. I had no idea it was happening until we walked into the Duluth location on Saturday. It was our last gf food shopping stop of the day. We started at Pure Knead, hit a store that will remain unnamed as they don't deserve any publicity and hit Whole Foods before stopping at NFW. We also made a stop at Yeah! Burger for lunch (review to come on Celiac-Disease.com) and decided to skip Trader Joe's since it's SO busy there on Saturdays. The aisles at TJ's are too small to navigate with a shopping cart when the store isn't very busy and on the weekends it's a nightmare.

There were many vendors and most of them had gluten-free tasting samples. There was some licorice candy that wasn't gluten-free, but I don't recall anything else being sampled that we could not have. It seemed like a great event and I've never seen that many people in that store ever before! Thankfully, after picking up what we needed, we didn't have to wait long in line to pay.

Natural Foods Warehouse is by far my fave place to shop for gluten-free specialty foods in the Atlanta area. No other place really compares in my book due to the winning combination of the products available plus the friendliness of the staff there. Natural Foods Warehouse now has THREE locations so if you're on the north side of town, do yourself a favor and check one of them out!

Gluten-free sub rolls now available in Alpharetta!

There is a new Alpharetta sub shop that is now offering The Grainless Baker's fabulous sub rolls! Thanks to Ryan B. for posting this exciting news to the celiac listserv! I spoke to the owner who explained the measures they take to protect from cross contamination issues. They put the bread on clean foil to run through their conveyor toaster and have a separate dedicated area to make gluten-free sandwiches. Please be advised that I have not yet eaten at the restaurant and don't know anyone else who has. Always ask the right questions when dining out gluten-free.

PRESS RELEASE

Delight Gluten-Free Magazine
Announces new publisher,
Executive Editor, and Expanded distribution plan

New York, MARCH 30, 2011—Delight Gluten-Free Magazine is pleased to announce its purchase by SideWalk Media, a move that will help the dynamic magazine expand its reach into new mainstream markets.

Jordan Gary—the magazine’s new Publisher—plans to significantly expand distribution over the next year into more mainstream retailers, as well as enhance the presence of the magazine nationally and internationally. With the new ownership, the magazine has also refined its entire concept to target the global gluten-free community including people living with Celiac Disease, Diabetes, Multiple Sclerosis and Autism, as well as all-around foodies.

With the purchase, Vanessa Maltin Weisbrod has been promoted to Executive Editor of the magazine. Vanessa has been with the magazine since its beginning in 2008 and has been a driving force behind its success. She has a longstanding background in the journalism, culinary and gluten-free worlds, has published two gluten-free cookbooks and is a leading authority in the Celiac Disease community. In her new role, Vanessa will oversee all things editorial in the magazine, as well as shape the vision for it moving forward.

Julie Luse—the former publisher of the magazine—has decided to take a small step back to spend more time with her blossoming family, however she will continue on at the magazine as the Founding Editor and as Creative Director where she will be responsible for maintaining the beautiful look and feel of Delight Gluten-Free Magazine.

Additionally, Tiffany Janes has been promoted to Director of Advertising & Community Outreach. Tiffany has been a contributor to the magazine for the last two years and is a household name in the gluten-free community. She writes for several gluten-free blogs and has led the charge in Atlanta for getting restaurants to adopt gluten-free menus.

Future issues of the magazine will include:

·  Interviews with celebrities maintaining a gluten-free diet. The Spring 2011 issue features an up close and personal interview with Tenley Molzhan, best known as America’s Sweetheart who appeared on ABC’s The Bachelor.
·  Dozens of fully illustrated recipes that have all been tested and approved in-house by magazine test kitchen staff.
·  Enlightening articles that will help readers maintain a special diet.
·  A gluten-free lifestyle guide that includes safe and unsafe foods, as well as tips for understanding food additives and reading labels. Expanded recipes and substitutions for gluten-free, dairy (casein-free), nut- free, egg-free, soy-free, rice-free, corn-free and many vegetarian options.
·  Comprehensive travel articles that will help readers plan gluten-free, allergen-free trips around the world.
·  And, much, much more!

Delight gluten-free Magazine - save through 4-8-11

The subscription shopping cart is up and running on the Delight gluten-free website. There are also a couple of specials going on through 4-8-11 for new subscribers. You can either save on a new subscription or make a donation to a charity that is close to our hearts at Delight gluten-free. Check out the details HERE.

For the Atlanta gluten-free set, Metro Fresh on Monroe now offers gluten-free muffins. They are very tasty and have no weird gluten-free texture - in fact, most people that buy them have no idea they are gluten-free! There is also a new location of Metro Fresh at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, but I'm not sure if they have the new muffins there.

Blue Moon Pizza opening in Buckhead in May 2011

The last time I was at Blue Moon Pizza in Vinings, the manager told me that the local chain is opening a location in Buckhead in May. The next location opening will be in the Sandy Springs area in August (or September) in 2011. Unfortunately, there are no plans to move into Gwinnett yet, but at least I can enjoy great pizza at the Buckhead location when in town.

Also, the manager stressed that if anyone EVER gets sick from gluten-free offerings while eating at any location of Blue Moon Pizza, the owner wants to know about it immediately. Their goal is to offer safe meals to the gluten-free community 100% of the time. The staff (front and back of the house) is updated on cross contamination issues regularly in an effort to make this happen.

No matter how far you have to drive to get to any Blue Moon Pizza - it's definitely well worth the trip!!!

Winter Delight gluten-free finally arrives!

What perfect timing that it is hovering near forty degrees in Atlanta and I received a box of Delight gluten-free magazines on my front stoop today. It's a bit late, to say the least, but oh it is so worth the wait! Anyone who's living gluten-free and planning a wedding will not want to miss this issue! See how Udi's played a part in this special wedding. The couple's gluten-free honeymoon in Thailand adventures are not to be believed!

My interview with the wonderful Allesio Fasano, MD discusses a possible vaccine and cure for celiac disease as well as why some people can't tolerate pure gluten-free oats. I just might have to make the corn and crab chowder recipe in the new issue this weekend. It looks simply amazing!

Delight gluten-free is truly the little allergen-free lifestyle magazine that could! It started off as something local that grew into something much larger....almost too quickly for comfort. Who would have thought a new niche market publication would have this kind of growth in such a short time? I'm pretty sure none of us knew that people would respond in the amazingly positive way that they have.

Some of you might be aware that our subscription service server crashed and it's not back up yet. For that we can only apologize and ask for your patience. When everything is back up and running, we'll have a much more seamless operation for new subscriptions, renewals and back issue orders. Much needed changes are taking place to ensure that future issues arrive in a timely manner and that reader inquiries are replied to promptly.

As the new Advertising Manager for the magazine, I believe I've contacted all potential advertisers that reached out to us during our transition. However, if I missed you somehow, please contact me by clicking here. I'd love to help you get your products or services exposed to our readers. Our summer issue will be our largest production run to date!

Last but not least, I'd like to thank everyone who has stuck with Delight gluten-free through our growing pains. Our entire team pledges to make sure you don't regret it one bit. As always, thank you so very much for your continued support!
